About therapy

There are many reasons for wanting to come to therapy. Everyone is unique and comes to therapy with their own life story, culture and beliefs. I have particular interest in working with feelings around class, sexuality and race; also with those who have experienced physical trauma from accidents, operations and illness.

These can include (but are not limited to):

  • Anger
  • Accidents
  • Bereavement
  • Cancer
  • Life transitions
  • LGB
  • Relationship issues
  • Self harm
  • Sexuality

You may want to talk about some of the above, or something different, or you may have several concerns. 

Mindfulness Based Core Process Psychotherapy combines mindfulness, contemporary psychotherapy theories underpinned by Buddhist psychology and compassion practices. Our work will include talking about any issues but also paying attention to sensation and slowing down to whatever is present for you. You do not need to be a Buddhist or meditator to attend this type of therapy.

Working together

As many studies have shown, the relationship between the client and therapist is key to the quality and effectiveness of the therapy. In order to get a sense of one another and how we will work together, I offer an initial 30 minute free in-person consultation.

During this initial meeting we can discuss your reasons for wanting therapy, you can ask any questions and I will share my contract with you.  There is no obligation to commit at this stage and you may wish to meet other therapists to ensure you are happy with your choice.

Following this there can be a period of reflection to decide if this is the right fit for both of us.  If we decide to work together then I ask for an initial commitment of 6 weeks with regular reviews following this.
